We are now having problems with the cooling fan on the engine that has burnt out as well. After taking the vehicle to another Dodge dealership, we were informed the problem is warped front brake rotors. We replaced the transmission, and yet the problem still occurred. November 12 2003 my transmission blew.
Thankfully it happened close to home on a quiet road so no one was hurt or involved in an accident. Fortunately, on-coming traffic was able to avoid a collision. More diagnosis is necessary to identify what the transmission fault is. David said chrysler has had over a 100 complaints about this same truck,but chrysler will not help. I know there has been a lot of complaints about the transmission, shouldn't it be a recall on this. To summarize: If fluid is dark colored and smells burnt - you have an internal failure and the transmission must be removed and inspected to determine what happened. The transmission was repaired for this problem once already and the problem is occurring again. It got a tranny flush but still didn't want to shift so I took it back in and in the investigation ,we realized that it needed a new tranny. Place the Driver's Position Dash Shift Lever into Park and then reconnect the Cable to the Shift Lever and tighten down the cable adjustment screw to 70 in-lbs. I had it towed to a repair shop buddies automotive 410-679-6300 the repair shop indicated that the pin that Dodge uses in the differential is undersized and hollow, and that it had sheared off sending parts through the casing of the transmission. It was towed into the dealership they said the fluid was bad and the filter clogged.
