Dealer replaced seal at discounted price. Remedy Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag, free of charge. It looks amazing, I like how big and beefy it is, and it works like a dream. Like the new-for-2002 standard Ram, the Heavy Duty line makes excellent use of the big truck's space, with myriad storage cubbies and folding seats. To pickup-truck lovers, that's saying a lot.
Smooth comforatble ride on or off road. This recall addresses both the passenger side frontal air bags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement air bags that may have been installed as replacement service parts. The 375-pound feet of peak torque at 4200 rpm is also unmatched in a pickup truck small-block V-8. More problematic is the choice between Hemi and Cummins. Why they named this truck after a sheep remains a mystery.
If you like the Ram 1500's larger-than-thou feel, you'll love the 2500 and 3500. Other 3 vents don't blow cold air. The beds are even shared with the exception of the extra wide fenders on the dualie. For a truck engine, this one feels like a sports car. In fact the coil sprung 4x4 front suspension is virtually indistinguishable from that of the outgoing Ram Heavy Duty 4x4. Still, the Hemi proved an elegant solution.
The Dodge feels a bit sharper, if slightly harsher, than the Chevy, with quicker and more direct steering on the rack-and-pinion-equipped 4x2s. The tamping of the rear suspension is more controlled under load, the ride is only slightly harsher and the steering remains well weighted and quick. Acceleration is extra-smooth, with no jerk or lash in the five-speed automatic's shifts, thanks to Dodge's first use of electronic throttle control. Very little maintenance costs involved in the 7 years that I have owned it.
As soon as it arrived, it was again chosen for towing detail--no surprise there. The left tie rod assembly may break. It has 102,000 miles, but it is still running strong. Pilot injection sprays a small amount of fuel to start combustion before the main fuel charge is injected. Cylinder cutoff for the truck Hemi is in the works, but Schaum can't say how soon.
Alternative engines are the Magnum V-10 and a new common-rail injection High-Output Cummins Turbo Diesel. Remedy Chrysler notified owners and launched its recall campaign in January 2014. This smoothes out combustion pressure in the cylinder and produces better sound quality. Chrysler's number for this recall is R26. Gas is hight coast about 100 buck to fill it. The bodies are identical to the half-ton Ram and offered in the same two configurations -- regular cab and extended Quad Cab with four conventional opening doors.
Note: This recall partially supersedes recall 14V770. It has been very reliable and trouble free the entire 6 years. Cummins and the V-10 The other big engine news is the thoroughly revised Cummins turbodiesel. This truck has amazed me and by standers with it's pulling capabilities and as the saying goes about Cummins 'nothing fancy just the only engine worth putting in a truck' has made me a believer of this over achiever reg cab 4x4 truck! That steering pays off in excellent road feel and responsiveness at least for a truck this large.
Dodge has gone to major lengths to assure buyers the Heavy Duty Ram is a serious work truck, but with exemplary road manners and exceptional comfort and convenience. Continuing almost unchanged in the Ram 2500 and 3500 is the 8. The Ram cabs are the most accommodating in the business with a clean design and enough cubbyholes to store a whole gross of cubbies.
