Just because her mother mistakes Fred for a psychological problem doesn't mean she's right. She places the box by the window and gets into bed. But I was stunned when I caught this film on television one day, because I liked it in all respects. This psychic crisis is poignantly realistic. I particularly love the scene when Carrie Fisher pretends to throttle Drop Dead Fred. But then we'd get home, and he'd always be there to play with me and be a good friend.
Both thumbs up for Rik Mayall's excellent portrait as Fred, I can't think of anyone more suitable for the role than him. This adult was portrayed in Cate's mother to contrast with her character. Michael is also well known for his advocating for Parkinson's disease, which he was diagnosed with in 1991. Every actor in this movie owned their character perfectly. Watch it and try not to laugh. Imaginary friends are wonderful and if we look a little deeper we can see that this film is simply telling us to listen to ourself --not deny our feelings and give ourselves a hug like she does at the end when Drop Dead Fred must go. Wonderful little bit of stupidity and like I said, if they make them cuter than Cates, I've missed the boat! Fred may or may not be a figment of Phoebe Cates imagination, that is left for the viewer to decide.

This movie was made to show that adults abandon the child within to live a bore of a life. While we might have some questions in the beginning, by the end it's quite clear that Fred is real. Now he understands some of the phrases I stole from the movie and it makes it even more funny for him. He causes chaos around the home and neighborhood, but nobody can see him except her. If you don't want to see childish humour or have any fun in your life, just like her mother, which is the whole point in the film. I watched it again recently, and while the film's slapstick comedy did not hold quite the same massive appeal although I was still hugely entertained as it did when I was younger, I regretted to discover that I had grown out of a lot of the goofy antics that went on in the movie.
Elizabeth's not ill, she's lonely and she's the product of a really bad upbringing and the comments that sympathise with her mother scare me! He was the only of the brothers to marry during the regular tv series. I would give this zero stars if that was an option! Carrie Fisher will always be remembered and associated with Star Wars, but she is a superb comedy actress. Most people, when they watch this movie, have a pretty open mind and enjoy it. If you are ever in a bad mood, this is the movie you would want to watch in order to smile! However, his childish antics do more harm than good. In itself, the film is cute and funny with vaguely serious undertones in some parts, and is a cult film beloved by many. I am disgusted by the degree to which I see this movie denigrated among the user comments here on imdb. A lot of people did not understand this movie because they were searching in the shallow waters and never dove deep into the meaning of it. Watch it, it will make you laugh, it will make you smile, and it will make you chuckle. Mickey explains how only Elizabeth could see Drop Dead Fred, and everybody else thought she was crazy. Fred played by Rik Mayall was a marvelous decision and he ceased to be boring through out.
