I've had them go bad before with no codes showing. It seems that every time we bring these trucks in for service the first thing the dealer wants to do is install new batteries. In addition, the troubleshooting guide is linked directly to the fault code information screen allowing quick and easy access to information to perform quick repairs. Memphis Freightliner replaced the transmission shift controller thinking that would fix the problem and I drove 70 miles and it happened again! That rebuild cost me over 3000. But eventually it will just quit shifting all together.
Anyone out there have any idea what needs to be done to fix the problem? If there are no active codes the gear display will show code 25. Other times it gets stuck and won't reset even after disconnecting the batteries!! Ended up doing splitter sleeve, splitter fork,servicing range valve and found auxiliary gear badly pitted so changed. Note: If the codes have been successfully cleared, the service lamp will come on and stay on for five seconds. If the yoke nut is loose, this will allow the tone wheel to spin, as it will no longer be clamped between the output bearing and the yoke. I had similar problems and eventually it led to having to rebuild the shift tower. Get the guys to check for those and let me know what they find.
Whenever I am driving it there are times when it gets stuck in gear. After five seconds, the gear display begins flashing two-digit fault codes. AutoShift will attempt to shift into neutral. A one or two second pause separates each stored code, and the sequence automatically repeats after all codes have been flashed. Make sure shifter is in neutral. Kansas City Freightliner has replaced the ground harness and it's still happening!! When I did a clutch job on the truck which was prompted by that slave cylinder falling right off one day. Just take good care of them and you will enjoy driving an auto transmission.
If everything else is pretty much new then I bet one of those maybe the problem, but with no codes hard to tell which one. This may have to be done several times before the transmission learns. I will also point out that on my truck the slave cylinder on the clutch came in the vertical position and was not robust at all. Got an auto electrician out, checked all wiring etc, and changed the xy motors. I just replaced one sensor yesterday on side of the road yesterday. Switched off and ignition on again,no F but as soon as he tried moving in 1st the flashing F returned. I have a 2001 Freightliner Century eaton fuller 10sp Auto that has been misbehaving lately! A new sensor is fitted to rectify the fault and the magnet does not get removed off the tone wheel. Truck didnt have power and after checking sensors and wiring etc etc the auto elec found tcm needed to be changed.
What usually happens is the sensor will crack and eventually break, normally logging a fault code 58. To retrive active fault codes starting with the key on engine running or not turn key off then back on 2 times in 5 seconds ending with the key on. Some faults will not allow the AutoShift to shift into other gears. . Hi There, I am new here and this is my first post. To start engine turn key off and wait for the transmission to power down. My truck had the square box on the dash and the shift tower on the side of the seat had the shifter with the buttons on the side of the grip to manually shift the tranny.
Removed plugs as before and replaced in order to get moving. This truck has had me stuck on the side of the road for hours simply frustrating!!! When first starting up and after changing loads, AutoShift needs to adapt to the changing conditions of the vehicle. If a shift is required while in cruise, AutoShift will interrupt cruise while performing the shift and automatically re-engage cruise after the shift is complete. Brought to auto elect shop and they said range and splitter valve needs servicing. If you break it off and one half is still stuck in the case, use a large tap and thread it into the sensor and you should be able to pull it out. I just got a digital ohm meter from Amazon. This now affects the new sensors ability to give an accurate reading as it is affected by the magnet on the tone wheel. If no codes are active, the gear display will flash code 25 no codes. I have searched several forums and the entire internet with no luck! If you seems to have major problem with them then there's something very wrong with both your electrical and air systems, which should be working right before the transimssion works the way it should. Any assistance or clues would be highly appreciated. You can try to reset the system by powering the system down for 5 minutes which may clear the fault long enough to get to a service facility.
